Artist Crush- El Anatsui

Happy Monday friends!  I got my post up a little late on Friday, so make sure you check in on it!  You can win some amazing metallic paint by simply "pinning" a photo or sharing a link on Facebook!  Check out the post for info about the project and how to win!

When I worked for Anthropologie, I did a lot of research on different artists and their amazing works to gather inspiration.  In the craziness of life,  I feel like I haven't been able to take as much time to find that inspiration.  However,  I did manage to stumble upon an incredible man by the name of "El Anatsui."  I came across Mr. Anatsui's incredible metal tapestries when I was searching for  something to jumpstart my creative juices for the Max Lucado set.

I was taken with Anatsui's gorgeous pieces that were massive in scale and intricate in detail.  The way his pieces "move" and shimmer in the light is really breathtaking.  What's even more astounding is that his tapestries are made from found and recycled materials, like thousands of aluminum bottle tops, iron nails, driftwood, and more.

Enjoy!

  1. They certainly do shimmer. I love how these sculpture/tapestry/fiber/paintings look weightless. Also, I'm a sucker for art that is ecologically conscious!
