Recreate Your Closet

Since creating a recording studio in a closet for a musically inclined client, I've been thinking about all the unique, creative, and fun ways you can re-imagine a closet space. Now many of us have no storage space to spare, but if you'd rather trade concealed storage space for livable square footage, here are some great ideas! :)

We'll start with the more obvious option- using your closet as an office area. . .

Of course a closet turned cozy little reading nook is a great way to get away. . .

Is your entry way in need of some personality? With a few fairly minimal changes, you can keep some storage and add some style . . .

Kid's sharing a room? You can still separate the crib somewhat by placing it in a converted closet space(great idea Staci!). Add some curtains for more sound blocking if needed. . .

Or maybe you'd rather keep the crib out and move the changing table inside the nook. . .

Fashionistas and girly girls might go gaga for a vanity set-up perfectly situated in the closet space. . .

Adults might agree to lose the storage if it means setting up a sweet wet bar (thanks Nikki for the idea!). . .

Desire a romantic feel in your bedroom? Placing the head of your bed in a closet space will create an instant alcove that feels super cozy (sorry, surprisingly I could not find any great photos of this). . .

Although TV's are pretty much always on in this day and age, I still like to have the option of concealing the television. Hanging it in a closet is a great way to make it easily visible or covered up. . .

One other idea I had but couldn't find a photo for was an exercise closet. I could see some dumbbells, bands, a radio, a tv, a water bottle stash, kettlebells, and more creating a very cute and functional area for fitness gurus out there!

Are you inspired to recreate your closet? Or are you hanging on to every inch of concealed storage you can?

  1. I like repurposing a closet. I've done this in both of our girls bedrooms:)

  2. Thanks for the shout out!
Right now, we're lucky to have any closets at all... but in the future I'd love to try some of these ideas! I suppose it all depends on the house and how you have it filled up!

  4. Very inspirational! We live in a small ranch and I'm ALWAYS on the look out for closet inspiration. We stashed our own changing table in my son's nursery closet as well! Here is the link: http://youngnesters.blogspot.com/2011/11/darwins-nursery.html

  5. Thanks for sharing those very creative custom closet ideas! Closets tend to be a space that gets ignored, either they get too cluttered or people aware of the potential in even the smallest client. A cool, creative custom closet can really brighten up a room.
