Hey Friends! I hope you had a great weekend! Tim, my mom, and I spent most of our time up at our warehouse trying to get things ready for our move in date! Things are looking good, but we're definitely going to have to push! :)
I got my post up a little late on Friday, so if you missed it, be sure to scroll down past this post and read about the closet turned recording studio! Of course the focal wall in the space is a custom treatment, but did you realize their is another DIY in the space?
The shelving area houses a bunch of equipment, but it also needed to be used as a desk. For this reason, I figured there should also be a place to store office supplies and other small items! So, I came up with this idea. . .
Here's how I achieved the look. As I was walking through Target one day, I saw this. . .

Target was selling it as a wine bottle holder. . . but I saw it as something completely different. Actually I saw it as a number of things, but for this project I saw the stacked circles as a great, unique way to store/display office supplies. I bought 3 units and proceeded to stack them like so. . .
Once everything was put in place, I really felt like the black and white color palette need some POP! So I retrieved some scrapbook papers in colors that coordinated with the room's feature wall.
Then I simply cut the papers to the correct length and placed them the inside of the cylinders.
I feel like the variety of colors really make a difference and add a lot more interest to the piece.
Lastly, I placed a few office supplies that were laying around into the cylinders. In the photo you only see writing utensils, but when everything was said and done this piece was holding remotes, foot pedals (for the instruments), sheet music, and magazines!
Let's zoom out.
I actually planned on creating this piece way before I found the "wine bottle holders" at Target. I was either going to use PVC pipe or cardboard food containers (like the packaging oatmeal comes in). When I saw the Target bottle holders on clearance though, the price was just too good to pass up. I would love to see someone else create the look from scratch though!
FYI- I also made a record bowl (it's sitting next to the lamp). You can see how to make those right here!
'Til tomorrow!

AHH! That is so insane! I saw these at Target and immediately thought the same thing and then stopped myself from buying them because....I get a bit too spend happy. Now I'm totally kicking myself because I've thought about them since, and then of course seeing your post! I'm seriously like 'GAHH!' hahah
ReplyDeleteI have something very close to this in my workspace made out of PVC that holds all my embroidery thread by color. It makes the thread storage look like art.
